Code of Ethics of Shama Santuary

One of the core reasons for establishing this church was the growing need for well-founded organizations that uphold the highest standards of safety and quality in their services. Over the past five years, the steady rise in alternative healing modalities has brought about a resurgence in the use of sacred medicines. While many practices honor strong traditions built on years of preparation and experience, the increasing popularity of substances like Bufo and 5-MeO-DMT, compounds that lack a deep-rooted history of traditional use, has given rise to a concerning trend.

Inexperienced individuals, often self-proclaimed shamans, are facilitating these powerful medicines without the necessary training or understanding, leading to harmful and reckless practices. This issue is further exacerbated by the absence of governmental regulations that establish standardized metrics for skills and credentials, leaving clients unable to discern seasoned practitioners from novices.

Compounding this challenge is the fact that these medicines represent a relatively new frontier, with limited definitive research to guide their use. Some practitioners are pushing boundaries with excessive dosing and frequent administrations, often with little consideration for the long-term effects on their clients. Such mismanagement is hazardous to safety.

While sacred medicines hold profound potential to foster deeper connections with ourselves and the divine, as well as to serve as transformative tools for healing, their misuse can lead to severe consequences, including PTSD and temporary psychosis. Ensuring proper stewardship of these powerful tools is paramount to safeguarding the well-being of those who seek healing through them.

Even with the most conservative administration, the possibility of PTSD and temporary psychosis remains, underscoring the importance of comprehensive medical and psychological screening. Additionally, proper preparation and post-journey integration support are essential components of a safe and effective experience. A low-dose, gradual approach is far preferable to high-dose, frequent treatments, prioritizing safety and the client’s well-being.

This commitment to a conservative, well-supported approach defines how this church facilitates medicine journeys. Our methods include ongoing research with detailed reporting and follow-up, careful dosing with adequate intervals between journeys to allow for proper integration, and a rigorous facilitator training program. This program ensures extensive, comprehensive training aligned with the church’s high standards.

As executive members of this church, we are dedicated to partnering only with facilitators and practitioners who adhere to these conservative standards and uphold our safety guidelines. Through these efforts, we aim to provide a foundation of trust, care, and excellence in every journey facilitated.

We will not align with individuals or organizations that:

  • Have not undergone extensive training or lack mentorship.
  • Do not incorporate comprehensive preparation and integration into their programs.
  • Encourage unsupervised self-administration of substances such as Bufo, 5-MeO-DMT, or high doses of psilocybin, ayahuasca, or LSD, without ensuring the essential conditions of set, setting, and space.
  • Use high doses or promote overly frequent administration, disregarding the importance of safety, moderation, and proper integration.
